Australia Day, Invasion Day, Day of Mourning, Survival Day or Laterly Aboriginal Sovereignty Day – Tuesday 26th January

Today is the anniversary of the arrival of the First Fleet of 11 convict ships from Great Britain, and the raising of the Union Jack at Sydney Cove by it’s commander Captain Arthur Phillip, in 1788.  You can find out more here About our National Day  I am not an Australian and my only observation would be that it would be so much nicer if we could highlight similarities in cultures to bind us rather than the differences that divide us.  And that could apply all over the world!

Well, I can only describe today as a day of two halves ……..

This morning….

Can you spot Alice?

Can you spot Jon and Elsie?

Swimming in the rain – I think we were wetter out of the pool!  But on the bright side it wasn’t crowded!
And this afternoon…..

  And me in my hat!

All followed by a supper of barbecue chicken kebabs and sweet corn – yum!

  1. Looks like you are getting out and about and familiarising yourself with the area. Can’t imagine swimming in the rain! The beach looks wonderful though. Is the Aldi there better than here – I hope so. Xx
